Varun Grover is the Chaired Full Distinguished Professor (George & Boyce Billingsley Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor) of Information Systems at the Walton School of Business, University of Arkansas. Prior to this, he was the David D. Glass Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor of IS at the Walton School of Business (2017–2021), and earlier the William S. Lee (Duke Energy) Distinguished Professor of Information Systems at Clemson University.

He has published extensively in the information systems field, with over 450 publications, including more than 300 articles in major refereed journals. Numerous recent studies have ranked him among the top four IS researchers globally based on publication volume in elite journals and citation impact. Dr. Grover has an h-index of 109 and over 68,000 citations in Google Scholar.

Thomson Reuters recognized him as one of the 100 Highly Cited Scholars worldwide across all Business disciplines. He currently serves as Senior Editor for MIS Quarterly Executive and Editor of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (Path-Breaking Research section), and has previously served as Senior Editor for MIS Quarterly, JAIS, and Database. His current research focuses on the impacts of digitalization on individuals and organizations.

Dr. Grover has received numerous research and teaching awards from institutions including USC, Clemson, AIS, the Academy of Management, and DSI. He is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems and a recipient of the LEO Award for Lifetime Exceptional Achievement in Information Systems. He has advised over 45 PhD students, co-chaired multiple doctoral consortia at ICIS and AMCIS, and delivered keynote addresses at universities and conferences worldwide.

Varun Grover is the David D. Glass Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor of Information Systems at the Walton School of Business, University of Arkansas. Prior to this, he was the William S. Lee (Duke Energy) Distinguished Professor of Information Systems at Clemson University. He has published extensively in the information systems field, with over 450 publications, including more than 300 articles in major refereed journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of MIS, Journal of the AIS, EJIS, ISJ, California Management Review, Decision Sciences, IEEE Transactions, and Communications of the ACM.

Multiple large-scale bibliometric studies have ranked him 1st, 2nd, or 3rd globally in research productivity among thousands of IS scholars publishing in top-tier journals. A recent influential study ranked him 2nd among the top 200 most influential IS researchers worldwide, based on h-index and citation impact. On the AIS research productivity database, he is ranked 2nd in productivity (1990–2016) based on publications in the top six IS journals. The University of Arizona’s h-index studies consistently ranked him among the top five MIS scholars across four consecutive assessments.

Dr. Grover has an h-index of 109 and over 68,000 citations in Google Scholar (as of 01/03/2026). In 2013, Thomson Reuters recognized him as one of the 100 Highly Cited Scholars globally across all Business disciplines.

He is Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly Executive and Senior Editor (Emeritus) for MIS Quarterly, JAIS, and Database, and serves on the editorial boards of numerous leading journals. He has chaired over 40 doctoral dissertations and has been deeply involved in doctoral education worldwide, including leadership roles in ICIS and AMCIS doctoral consortia. His students hold faculty positions at leading universities globally and senior roles in industry.

Dr. Grover has received numerous prestigious awards for research, teaching, and service, including multiple lifetime and best-paper awards from AIS, the Academy of Management, Decision Sciences Institute, and international professional bodies. He is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems, an AIS Distinguished Member Cum Laude, and a recipient of the LEO Award for Lifetime Exceptional Achievement in Information Systems.
